At St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Summer Hill, we offer a variety of co-curricular activities, lunchtime clubs and opportunities to participate in local and regional sporting events, and art and performance events. Here are some of the activities students can get involved in:
Special Interest Clubs
Students engage in Chess and Keyboard lessons with qualified instructors. The SRC meets regularly to discuss ideas and share initiatives to improve our school.
Choir
Each Monday, students are invited to participate in the school choir at lunchtime. The choir is led by the specialist music teachers. The choir enjoys any opportunity to perform at liturgies and other school events.
Music
Sydney Catholic Schools’ Amadeus Music Education Program is a comprehensive and quality music education program offered at St Patrick’s Summer Hill and in many Sydney Catholic schools.
The Amadeus program provides students from Kindergarten to Year 6 with high quality music lessons aligned with the NSW Creative Arts syllabus. In addition, the Amadeus program provides students in Year 3 to 6 with weekly small group tuition in selected instruments and ensemble lessons led by specialist music tutors.
Through the Amadeus program, students at St Patrick’s Summer Hill enjoy learning an instrument and playing in a musical ensemble. This enables them to strengthen their neural pathways in the brain and significantly improve academic success, engagement in learning, mindfulness and wellbeing.
Dance
Students learn dance skills and routines as part of the sports program and Creative Arts curriculum. Each year students are invited to share their dance talents through participation in the St Patrick’s Day talent show in term 1 and the Dance Showcase at the culmination of the sports program.
Gardening
The school ‘Vege Pods’ provide an opportunity for students to work together to plant vegetables, herbs and learn about companion planting, ways to be self-sufficient in the garden and promote care for the environment and sustainability.
Public speaking
Schools within our local network of Catholic primary schools participate in an inter-school public speaking competition each year. Students engage in learning experiences to enhance their public speaking skills as part of the English syllabus. The City West network inter-school competition challenges students to hone their public speaking skills.
Robotics
Teachers plan units of work that incorporate ways to support students’ understanding of how robotics and electronic components contribute to day to day life. Activities assist students to gain a deeper understanding of the construction and application of robotics.
