Principal’s Message

Thank you for choosing to learn more about St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Summer Hill.

I believe education is the solution to any question and I’m passionate about learning. Learning to me, is not solely academic: learning applies across the spiritual, physical, social and emotional domains. At St Patrick’s, we provide a holistic education to each and every student. It’s our privilege to work in partnership with families to develop the thinking, skills and the faith of our children.

Our school is continually adapting to the changing needs of our youth and their world. It’s a place where all students can discover who they are and develop the self-confidence to take on new challenges in a caring and nurturing environment, supported by the whole school community.

I feel very privileged to be principal of St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School and I invite you to visit to discover the school for yourself.

St Patrick's Catholic Primary School Summer Hill - students with bibleHistory

The parish of St Patrick’s Summer Hill was established in 1949 with 26 students. By 1959, the Sisters of St Joseph conducted a full primary course and secondary classes to intermediate with 300 students staffed by eight sisters.

The Josephite Sisters ended their leadership in 1989 and Mr Peter Hamer became the first lay principal of St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Summer Hill. Between 2006 and 2009, building works were completed including construction of a hall, upgrading classrooms, teaching areas, the library and canteen.

We are proud of our deep connection to the Josephite Sisters and aspire, in the words of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop, to ‘Never see a need without doing something about it’.

We also seek to live by the words St Patrick used to describe the presence of Christ in all we see and do. These words, together with our proud connection to Blessed Mary of the Cross MacKillop, inform our school motto of ‘Christ alive in us’.

‘Loving God, loving learning, loving each child, loving others’

In partnership with our community, and in keeping with the virtues of our Catholic faith, we are committed to the education of our students by knowing them as learners, inspiring them to follow the example of Jesus and by empowering them with the knowledge and skills they need to live purposeful and meaningful lives.

As a committed Catholic community founded on the dual charism of St Patrick and St Mary of the Cross Mackillop we: form hearts, build minds and transform lives.

  • Compassion: We are inspired to be inclusive, showing love and respect for all members of our community.
  • Integrity: We are inspired to take responsibility for our actions by being honest and courageous, while fostering the dignity of each person.
  • Justice: We are inspired to ‘love one another as God has loved us’ by reaching out to those in need.
  • Stewardship: We are inspired to treasure, conserve and share all God’s gifts that have been entrusted to us.

The community of St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Summer Hill is one of welcome and acceptance, and the link between the school and the parish is particularly strong. In 2017, the parishes of St Thomas’ Lewisham and St Patrick’s Summer Hill joined together to provide the opportunity for sharing of services and allowing parishioners to become part of a larger family of worshippers.

Whole school and class Masses are held to celebrate important days of the liturgical year with special family Masses held every term.
